Notes on this jurisdiction's rules and sources

Statutory Minimum Wage (SMW) under the Minimum Wage Ordinance (Cap. 608), in force since 1 May 2011; the hourly rate is in Schedule 3 and amended by subsidiary legislation. Until 2023 the Minimum Wage Commission (MWC) reviewed it at least every two years; from the 2024 review the Government adopted an annual review mechanism in which MWC applies a formula (CPI and GDP-based) each year, with new rates taking effect on 1 May (1 May 2025: $42.1; 1 May 2026: $43.1). The rate was frozen in 2021. Exemptions: student interns and work experience students (not a lower rate), and live-in domestic workers (not covered). Employees with disabilities may opt for a productivity assessment and be paid pro rata (not a fixed rate, no row). Amounts are in HKD ('$' on HK government pages).
