Notes on this jurisdiction's rules and sources

Until May 2026 Karnataka notified separate minimum wages for each scheduled employment (shops and commercial establishments: basic by zone plus a VDA of 4 paise per CPI point revised every 1 April). The final notification dated 22.05.2026 (draft 11.04.2025; about 99 employments consolidated) replaced these with one schedule (Annexure-4) for all scheduled employments in Annexures 1 and 3, including shops and commercial establishments: four skill bands (unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, highly skilled) in three zones (Zone-1 areas of the Greater Bengaluru Authority; Zone-2 other Mahanagara Palikes and all district headquarters; Zone-3 all other areas), per month and per day (monthly / 26), plus a cost-of-living allowance computed yearly on CPI movement. Four Annexure-2 employments (e.g. scavenging, power stations) have their own rates. Employers contest the notification (issued under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 after the Code on Wages took effect on 21.11.2025; High Court WP 22771/2025). The notification revises the rates with immediate effect and says the variable dearness allowance for the two years since the draft was taken into account. Aggregators add a further VDA of Rs.1,030.80 per month to the Annexure-4 rates; that amount is not in the notification and is not published here.
