Notes on this jurisdiction's rules and sources
Maharashtra fixes a basic minimum wage for each of about 67 scheduled employments by zone (usually Zone 1, 2, 3) and skill band (skilled, semi-skilled, unskilled), and the Labour Commissioner adds a special allowance (cost-of-living allowance on the CPI) every six months, for January-June and July-December, publishing the total monthly minimum wage per employment. For shops and commercial establishments the special allowance from 01.07.2026 is Rs.4,134 per month in all zones. Zones are defined in the basic-rate notification, not in the special allowance notification; per the SGCMS summary (secondary) Zone 1 is municipal corporation limits, cantonments and industrial areas within 20 km of them, Zone 2 A- and B-class municipal councils, Zone 3 the rest of the state. Only monthly totals are stated.
