Notes on this jurisdiction's rules and sources
Tamil Nadu fixes minimum rates of BASIC wages separately for each scheduled employment by Government Order (for shops and commercial establishments: G.O.(2D) No.65, Labour Welfare and Skill Development (J1), 20 August 2024, in force from its gazette publication on 11 September 2024), by class of employee (about 50 general categories plus special categories) and four zones (Zone A all Corporations and Special Grade Municipalities; Zone B other Municipalities; Zone C Townships, Town Panchayats and Cantonments; Zone D all other places). A dearness allowance linked to the Chennai City CPI (Rs.40.18 per point over 161, 2001=100, for shops) is added every 1 April; the Commissioner of Labour publishes the DA amounts (from 01/04/2026: Rs.7,353.00 per month for shops and commercial establishments, statement Z3/3459/2026 dated 18.02.2026). No official source states the total (basic + DA) minimum wage, so no rows are published: the dataset does not add figures. Daily rate = monthly / 26.
